What qualifications does Murray Smith have to make any comments about building standards? Is he a building surveyor (was Pru?)
I note they are exempted under 176 (5) of the Building Act from the offence of holding out – but this does not excuse them from making incompetent pronouncements. In this case Smith is quoted as saying ‘All buildings that have used flammable cladding will need to have it removed’. How is this going to fit with performance standards and the fact that they have been supposedly approved as complying? Who is going to pay for this and, if it is the taxpayer and it is not necessary, is this a waste of public funds?
