Steven Baxas is the State Building Surveyor at the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), with more than 30 years of Local Government experience.

Steven was the Municipal Building Surveyor at the City of Melbourne for seven years and the Municipal Building Surveyor at the City of Port Phillip for 11 years. Prior to that, he worked at the City of Monash for 15 years.

He has formal qualifications in building surveying and fire engineering and is passionate about fire safety in buildings.

Steven has had, and still has, a number of professional affiliations:

• An accredited member of the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors

• A professional member of the Fire Protection Association of Australia

• A member of the Society of Fire Safety at Engineers Australia

• A long-standing former member of the Building Regulations Advisory Committee (BRAC), as appointed by the Minister for Planning

• The former Vice President of the Victorian Municipal Building Surveyors Group.
