Jamie is an Assistant Chief Fire Officer with Fire Rescue Victoria. As the Director Fire Safety, he is responsible for the delivery of FRV’s legislative responsibilities in Major Hazard Facilities, Dangerous Goods, Waste and Recycling, Building Inspection and Compliance and policy and reform.
His department has also recently taken on a range of initiatives to improve firefighter and community safety in the Alternative and Renewable Energy Technology environment. Jamie represents FRV on a national level in this new risk environment and is committed to ensuring consistency in regulation and response across the country.
He has extensive emergency management experience at major events such as Gippsland Fires, Black Saturday and the Hazelwood Mine Fire, and has overseen fire service, and community development programs in Cambodia and East Timor as a contractor to the United Nations.
Jamie has been awarded the National Emergency Medal twice, the National Medal and holds a Graduate Diploma of Executive Leadership.
This presentation will cover what FRV is doing to mitigate risks in the built environment, particularly within our most vulnerable communities and high-risk settings. Jamie will delve into the emerging hazard of lithium-ion batteries, sharing our experiences and the challenges faced by fire services in Australia and worldwide.
We recognise this new hazard as a significant challenge that affects the National Construction Code, fire engineers, municipalities, fire services, businesses, industry, and the waste and recycling sectors.
FRV is dedicated to providing adaptive leadership in this area, taking proactive steps and advocating for enhanced safety outcomes for both firefighters and the community.
